The Canada District of the Pentecostal Missionary Church of Christ (4th Watch) held its 5th District Convention from February 28 – March 7, 2010 at the district headquarters in Scarborough, Ontario. Reaching Out for the Future Glory of the Church was the theme of this year’s convention which was taken from the verse in Ephesians 4:13.
The whole week event started with the symbolic Opening Ceremony which highlighted the growing missionary work in this big North American nation. The customary parade of flags and muses featured the different provinces and cities where there is an established church and pioneering works. The night was filled with colorful performances from different brethren branding out the various culture in Canada. The welcome service served as a good introduction for a service-packed week. The message that night was administered by the Canada District Coordinator, Ptr. Belle Obsanga.
Day 1, after the morning devotion the deacons and deaconesses held its Elders’ Conference. This one-day program proved to be a lasting experience for the elders of the Canadian district. Ptr. Belle Obsanga on her seminars taught and reminded the elders about their roles as partners in shepherding the flock and their duties and responsibilities as co-builders in the Church.
Day 2, the leaders and brethren who are part of the different ministries in the Church were present in this year’s Leaders and Ministries Conference. Once again they had been motivated to do their best service to God. The whole day service proved to be an effective way in promoting the different talents that they had received from God. Everyone was reminded about the importance of each one`s role in uplifting the mission of God in our time. As the Bible declares that to whom much is given much will be required, the brethren were enlivened after the conference and their understanding about their ministries became much deeper.
Day 3 onwards, each day of the convention started with the delegates coming to the throne of grace of God. Ministers and workers from the different local churches alternately delivered the word of God during the devotion services. In every prayer, the brethren seeked for spiritual renewal from God and to outpour His blessings to his people. After the morning prayer, the first stage of the daily convention services was the seminar. Speakers assigned discussed about certain topics related to the base theme. The messages were well accepted by the brethren present in the gathering and it enlightened them on many grounds of service to God. The worship service came after the 1st seminar and during those hours, the delegates were refreshened by the satisfying and encouraging words delivered by the guest speakers. Ptr. Jonathan Ferriol, the US District Coordinator and head pastor of South Bay, California and Bro. Joseph Concepcion, a minister from San Diego, California, were the noted speakers during the convention. They, together with Ptr. Belle Obsanga, led the congregation in worship and stirred up the faith of the listeners with their encouraging message from God. The meditation of His words continued in the afternoon with the seminars conducted by the speakers.
Nightly, special programs were held focusing on the different ministries in the Church such as the Healing Night, Talents Night and Missionary Night. Those nights were groundbreaking as new visions were unfolded in the minds of every one. Also, in the course of the week-long convention, Ptr. Jonathan paved the way and gave the opportunity for the Canadian brethren to partake in the growing media ministry here in North America. He encouraged each one to lend its hand of support to the Surer Word TV ministry through the Capital Fund Drive. As it became successful during the US District Convention, the launching in Canada was also a success. Almost all of the brethren had given their pledge of support in partnership in this divine endeavour of the Church.
Over-all the 5th Canada District Convention was a huge success. Delegates from the provinces of Alberta, Quebec, Manitoba, British Columbia and Ontario were delighted seeing each other and being renewed altogether by the Word of God. The workers, ministers and elders throughout the district had their ministries boosted more and the brethren were pushed towards greater service to God. The event, though without so much spectacle was greatly blessed by God. The closing Sunday during the worship service, the entire sanctuary of the host venue echoed in praises and utterances of dedication to God. The delegates and members of the congregation were found committing themselves in more fruitful service to Him as they reach out for the future glory of the Church.
